From the very beginning, painting for Balvi was not a mere hobby, it was a passion, a way of expressing herself and bringing beauty into her life. Balvi studied at the Beaux Arts in Paris and was a member of various Salons in France. The artist was a master of watercolour but found her true love in oil painting. It is in oil painting that Balvi creates magic with her brushstrokes and pallet knife.

Looking at Balvi’s paintings is like wandering around the world. It is the particular charm of the French countryside, especially Normandy, where you will find apple blossom trees in Spring or the colourful sailing regattas in the Le Havre, the boats and chalk cliffs at Etretat, the sun umbrellas on the beaches and the typical little Norman harbor of Honfleur on the banks of the Seine where you will truly find Balvi's heart and soul.

Her canvases are a window of various scenes and landscapes of France. She will take you to the open markets in Le Chatre, which is so typical of the vivacious French way of living in deep France, or to lunch in the garden in Giverny and George Sand’s home. Her landscapes are full of poppies, irises, daisies, multi-colored peonies, puffy clouds as well as bunches of sunflowers, which abound in beautiful and airy compositions. Balvi is conscious of creating and bringing balance and harmony to her paintings.

Those unfamiliar with Balvi will discover the variety and wit of her scenes bursting with character and detail such as the people in front of Saint Marco under colourful umbrellas in Venice. There is something extraordinary and beautiful and simple in the landscapes of Tuscany, looking at the tilted olive trees you cannot help but feel the wind blowing. She wants you to share the enjoyment of the Venetian Carnival with its brilliance of colour; as you were at Florian’s. One would also enjoy her paintings from her travels throughout magical landscapes and scenes of Mauritius, Tunisia, Morocco and China, which she transforms you to. Balvi's sketchbook is her constant companion wherever she may travel.

Balvi’s paintings are best described as Neo-Impressionism.
